Ohlone language
The Ohlone language refers to a group of related languages spoken by the Ohlone people, indigenous to the central California coast. These languages belong to the larger Utah-Yuman language family and include several distinct dialects, such as Mutsun and Rumsen.
Historically, the Ohlone languages were used for daily communication, storytelling, and cultural practices. However, due to colonization and the decline of the Ohlone population, these languages faced significant endangerment. Efforts are currently underway to revitalize and preserve the Ohlone languages through educational programs and community initiatives.
