Ogoni people
The Ogoni people are an ethnic group located in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria. They primarily inhabit the Ogoniland area, which is known for its rich oil reserves. The Ogoni have a distinct culture, language, and traditional practices that reflect their connection to the land and environment.
In the 1990s, the Ogoni people gained international attention due to their activism against environmental degradation caused by oil extraction by companies like Royal Dutch Shell. This movement was led by Ken Saro-Wiwa, a prominent Ogoni leader, who advocated for the rights of his people and the protection of their land.
