O'Conor of Connacht
"O'Conor of Connacht" refers to a title held by the ruling family of the province of Connacht in Ireland. The O'Conor dynasty was one of the most significant Gaelic families, claiming descent from Conchobhar mac Nessa, a legendary king of Ulster. They played a crucial role in the political landscape of medieval Ireland, particularly during the 12th century.
The O'Conors were involved in various conflicts and alliances with other Gaelic lords and the Anglo-Norman invaders. Their influence waned after the English conquest of Ireland, but they remained a symbol of Gaelic heritage and resistance. The last O'Conor king, Roderic O'Conor, ruled until the late 12th century.
