Nypa fruticans
Nypa fruticans, commonly known as the nipa palm, is a species of palm tree native to coastal and riverine areas in Southeast Asia and parts of the Indian subcontinent. It thrives in brackish water and can grow in tidal zones, making it well-adapted to mangrove ecosystems. The tree can reach heights of up to 30 meters and has large, fan-shaped leaves.
The nipa palm is notable for its unique flower clusters, which produce edible fruits. These fruits are often harvested for their sweet sap, which can be fermented to make toddy, a traditional alcoholic beverage. Additionally, the leaves are used for thatching roofs and weaving mats.
