Nyepi is the Balinese Day of Silence, a Hindu celebration that marks the start of the new year in the Balinese calendar. It is observed with a day of fasting, meditation, and self-reflection, where the island of Bali comes to a standstill. No work, travel, or entertainment is allowed, and even the streets are quiet.
The day before Nyepi, a vibrant parade takes place featuring large, colorful Ogoh-Ogoh statues that represent negative spirits. These statues are carried through the streets and then burned to purify the island and drive away evil. This unique celebration emphasizes introspection and spiritual renewal.
