Balinese New Year
Balinese New Year, known as Nyepi, is a unique celebration observed in Bali, Indonesia. It marks the start of the Saka calendar and usually falls in March. The day is dedicated to self-reflection, silence, and meditation, with the island coming to a standstill. No work, travel, or entertainment is allowed, creating a peaceful atmosphere.
The day before Nyepi, a vibrant parade takes place featuring large, colorful Ogoh-Ogoh statues made of bamboo and paper. These statues represent negative spirits and are burned to purify the island. This combination of festivities and solemnity makes Balinese New Year a significant cultural event.
