Novorossiya
"Novorossiya," meaning "New Russia," refers to a historical region in southeastern Ukraine that was part of the Russian Empire in the 18th and 19th centuries. The term has been used in modern times, particularly during the conflict in Eastern Ukraine, to describe areas where pro-Russian sentiments are strong.
The concept of Novorossiya gained prominence in 2014 when separatist movements in Donetsk and Luhansk declared independence from Ukraine. Supporters of Novorossiya advocate for closer ties with Russia, while opponents view it as a challenge to Ukrainian sovereignty and territorial integrity.
