Norwegian independence
Norwegian independence refers to the process by which Norway became a fully sovereign nation. This journey began in 1814 when Norway declared independence from Denmark after the Napoleonic Wars. However, it soon entered a union with Sweden, which lasted until 1905.
In 1905, Norway peacefully dissolved its union with Sweden, leading to full independence. A referendum confirmed the desire for independence, and Prince Carl of Sweden was invited to become Norway's king, taking the name King Haakon VII. This marked the establishment of Norway as a separate and independent nation.
