Northern Muriqui
The Northern Muriqui (Brachyteles hypoxanthus) is a critically endangered primate native to the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. It is one of the largest species of New World monkeys, characterized by its long limbs and prehensile tail, which it uses for grasping branches. These monkeys are social animals, living in groups that can include up to 30 individuals.
Northern Muriquis primarily feed on leaves, fruits, and flowers, playing a vital role in their ecosystem by aiding in seed dispersal. Their populations have declined due to habitat loss, hunting, and fragmentation of their forest environment, making conservation efforts essential for their survival.
