Southern Muriqui
The Southern Muriqui, also known as the Southern Woolly Spider Monkey or Brachyteles arachnoides, is a primate species native to the Atlantic Forest of Brazil. This species is characterized by its long limbs, prehensile tail, and social behavior, often living in large groups. They primarily feed on fruits, leaves, and flowers, playing a crucial role in seed dispersal within their habitat.
Southern Muriquis are currently classified as Endangered due to habitat loss and hunting. Conservation efforts are underway to protect their remaining populations and restore their natural habitats. Organizations focused on primate conservation, such as the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), are actively involved in these initiatives.
