Northern Lapwing
The Northern Lapwing (Vanellus vanellus) is a wading bird known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a black and white body, a long crest, and iridescent green wings. It typically inhabits open fields, wetlands, and agricultural areas across Europe and parts of Asia. The species is recognized for its unique courtship displays and loud, characteristic calls.
These birds are ground-nesters, laying their eggs in shallow depressions. The Northern Lapwing feeds primarily on insects, worms, and other invertebrates found in the soil. Due to habitat loss and changes in farming practices, their populations have declined in some regions, leading to conservation efforts aimed at protecting their habitats.
