North-West Mounted Police
The North-West Mounted Police (NWMP) was established in 1873 in Canada to maintain law and order in the western territories. Its primary mission was to enforce Canadian laws, control the fur trade, and manage relations with Indigenous peoples. The NWMP played a crucial role in the expansion of Canada into the west.
In 1932, the NWMP was renamed the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). The RCMP became known for its distinctive red uniforms and horse-mounted patrols, symbolizing Canadian heritage. Today, the RCMP serves as a federal, provincial, and municipal police force, continuing its legacy of public safety and community service.
