North American bison
The North American bison, also known as the American bison, is a large mammal native to North America. It is characterized by its massive head, humped shoulders, and thick fur, which helps it survive in cold climates. Bison are herbivores, primarily grazing on grasses and other vegetation found in plains and prairies.
Historically, the North American bison roamed in vast herds across the continent. However, due to overhunting and habitat loss in the 19th century, their population drastically declined. Conservation efforts have since helped to restore bison numbers, and they are now found in several national parks and reserves across the United States.
