Norman Languages
The Norman languages are a group of Romance languages that evolved from the Latin spoken in the region of Normandy, France. They developed after the Viking settlement in the area during the 9th and 10th centuries, which influenced the local language with Norse elements. The most notable of these languages is Norman, which has several dialects spoken in Normandy and the Channel Islands.
In addition to Norman, other varieties include Jèrriais and Guernésiais, spoken in Jersey and Guernsey, respectively. These languages are part of the broader Oïl languages family, which also includes French. Today, Norman languages are considered endangered, with efforts underway to preserve and revitalize them.
