Oïl languages
Oïl languages are a group of Romance languages spoken primarily in northern France and parts of Belgium. They are derived from Latin and include dialects such as Picard, Norman, and Walloon. The term "Oïl" comes from the word for "yes" in these languages, distinguishing them from the Occitan languages spoken in southern France.
These languages have a rich history and were once widely used in literature and administration. However, their usage has declined over the years due to the dominance of French. Efforts are being made to preserve and revitalize Oïl languages through education and cultural initiatives.
