Non-Status Indians
Non-Status Indians are individuals of Indigenous descent in Canada who do not have official recognition as members of a First Nation or Indigenous community. This lack of status can occur for various reasons, such as not meeting specific criteria set by the Indian Act or choosing not to register.
These individuals may still identify culturally and socially as Indigenous, but they do not receive the same rights and benefits as those with status. Non-Status Indians often face challenges related to access to services, land rights, and cultural recognition within their communities and the broader society.
