Nikephoros II Phocas
Nikephoros II Phocas was a Byzantine Emperor who ruled from 963 to 969 AD. He was a skilled military leader known for his campaigns against the Arabs and Bulgarians, which expanded the Byzantine Empire's territory. His reign is often noted for its military successes and efforts to strengthen the empire.
Born in 912, Nikephoros was a member of a prominent military family. Before becoming emperor, he served as a general and was instrumental in the reconquest of Syria and Crete. His rule ended when he was assassinated in a conspiracy led by his wife, Theophano, and her lover, John Tzimiskes.
