Nigerian Independence
Nigerian Independence refers to the moment when Nigeria gained freedom from British colonial rule on October 1, 1960. This significant event followed years of political activism and negotiations by various leaders, including Nnamdi Azikiwe, Obafemi Awolowo, and Ahmadu Bello, who sought self-governance for the country.
The independence movement was marked by a series of constitutional changes and increasing demands for autonomy. After achieving independence, Nigeria became a republic in 1963, establishing its own government and constitution. However, the transition was not without challenges, leading to political instability and conflicts in the years that followed.
