Nguyễn Văn Thiệu
Nguyễn Văn Thiệu was a prominent South Vietnamese politician and military officer who served as the President of the Republic of Vietnam from 1967 to 1975. He played a significant role during the Vietnam War, leading the country during a tumultuous period marked by conflict and political instability. Thiệu was known for his staunch anti-communism and efforts to strengthen the South Vietnamese government.
Born on April 5, 1923, in Phan Rang, Thiệu initially joined the military and rose through the ranks. His presidency ended with the fall of Saigon in April 1975, leading to the reunification of Vietnam under communist control. After the war, he lived in exile until his death in 2007.
