New Order regime
The "New Order regime" refers to the authoritarian government led by Suharto in Indonesia from 1966 to 1998. This period followed the fall of the Guided Democracy era and was characterized by political stability, economic growth, and significant foreign investment. However, it was also marked by human rights abuses, suppression of dissent, and a lack of political freedoms.
Under the New Order, the government implemented policies that promoted industrialization and modernization, which contributed to rapid economic development. Despite these advancements, the regime faced criticism for its corruption and nepotism, leading to widespread protests and ultimately its downfall in 1998.
