Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve
The Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve is located in the Indian state of Uttarakhand and encompasses the majestic Nanda Devi mountain, which is the second-highest peak in India. Established in 1988, the reserve covers an area of approximately 2,124 square kilometers and is recognized for its rich biodiversity, including various species of flora and fauna unique to the region.
The reserve is part of the Nanda Devi and Valley of Flowers National Parks, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It serves as a critical habitat for endangered species such as the snow leopard and the Himalayan black bear, while also protecting the delicate alpine ecosystem found in the high-altitude areas.
