NGC_6604
NGC 6604 is an open star cluster located in the constellation Scutum. It is approximately 5,500 light-years away from Earth and is part of the larger Scutum-Centaurus arm of the Milky Way galaxy. The cluster contains several hot, young stars that are primarily of spectral type O and B, which are known for their brightness and high temperatures.
Discovered by John Herschel in 1834, NGC 6604 is associated with the H II region known as IC 4703. This region is a cloud of gas and dust where new stars are forming, making NGC 6604 an important area for studying stellar evolution and the dynamics of star formation.
