NGC 6266
NGC 6266 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Scorpius. It is approximately 18,000 light-years away from Earth and is known for its dense concentration of stars, which can number in the hundreds of thousands. This cluster is also designated as M 62 in the Messier catalog.
Discovered by Charles Messier in 1771, NGC 6266 is notable for its bright core and complex structure. It is one of the more massive globular clusters in our galaxy, containing a significant amount of dark matter. Observations of NGC 6266 provide valuable insights into the formation and evolution of star clusters.
