NGC 1029
NGC 1029 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation Tucana. It is approximately 50 million light-years away from Earth and is part of the Southern Hemisphere sky. This galaxy is notable for its distinct spiral arms and bright central bar structure, which are characteristic features of barred spiral galaxies.
Discovered by the astronomer John Herschel in 1834, NGC 1029 is classified as a type SBc galaxy. It has a diameter of about 60,000 light-years and contains a significant number of stars, gas, and dust, contributing to ongoing star formation within its structure.
