NGC 1042
NGC 1042 is a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 60 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus. It is part of the Eridanus Group, which contains several other galaxies. NGC 1042 has a diameter of about 50,000 light-years and is characterized by its bright central bar structure and well-defined spiral arms.
Discovered by astronomer John Herschel in 1834, NGC 1042 is notable for its relatively high surface brightness, making it easier to observe with amateur telescopes. The galaxy is also of interest to astronomers studying galaxy formation and evolution due to its distinct features and proximity to other galaxies in its group.
