Mungo Lady
Mungo Lady is the name given to the remains of a prehistoric woman discovered in 1974 near Lake Mungo in New South Wales, Australia. She is believed to have lived around 42,000 years ago, making her one of the oldest known human remains in Australia. The discovery provided significant insights into the lives of early Indigenous Australians and their burial practices.
The remains were found in a dry lakebed and were remarkably well-preserved. Mungo Lady was cremated, which is a rare practice for ancient human remains. Her discovery has contributed to the understanding of human history and migration patterns in Australia.
