Muhajirs
Muhajirs are Urdu-speaking immigrants who migrated to Pakistan from India during the partition in 1947. They left their homes due to the communal violence and political upheaval that accompanied the division of British India into two separate nations, India and Pakistan. The term "Muhajir" means "migrant" in Arabic, and these individuals primarily settled in urban areas, particularly in Karachi.
Over the years, Muhajirs have played a significant role in the cultural, economic, and political landscape of Pakistan. They have established a distinct identity, often emphasizing their linguistic and cultural heritage. The community has also been involved in various political movements, notably through the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), which advocates for the rights of Muhajirs in Pakistan.
