Mozambique Liberation Front
The Mozambique Liberation Front, known as FRELIMO, is a political party in Mozambique that played a crucial role in the country's struggle for independence from Portuguese colonial rule. Founded in 1962, FRELIMO led a guerrilla war against the Portuguese, which culminated in Mozambique gaining independence in 1975.
After independence, FRELIMO became the ruling party and focused on socialist policies and national development. However, the party faced challenges, including a civil war against the Mozambique National Resistance (RENAMO), which lasted from 1977 to 1992. Today, FRELIMO remains a dominant political force in Mozambique.
