Moving Coil Cartridges
Moving coil cartridges are a type of audio transducer used in turntables to convert the mechanical vibrations of a stylus into electrical signals. They consist of a small coil attached to a magnet, which moves within a magnetic field as the stylus tracks the grooves of a vinyl record. This movement generates an electrical current that is then amplified to produce sound.
These cartridges are known for their high fidelity and detailed sound reproduction. They typically offer a more dynamic range and better transient response compared to moving magnet cartridges. However, moving coil cartridges often require a specialized phono preamp and can be more expensive, making them popular among audiophiles.
