Great Mosque of al-Nuri
The Great Mosque of al-Nuri is a historic mosque located in Mosul, Iraq. It was built in the 12th century and is known for its impressive architectural features, including a large minaret called the al-Hadba. The mosque served as a significant religious and cultural center for the local community.
In June 2017, the mosque was destroyed during the conflict between the Islamic State and Iraqi forces. Its destruction was a significant loss to the cultural heritage of Iraq, as the mosque had been a symbol of the city for centuries. Efforts are underway to restore the site and preserve its historical significance.
