Moshoeshoe I
Moshoeshoe I was the founder of the Basotho nation in present-day Lesotho. Born around 1786, he united various Sotho tribes in the early 19th century, creating a strong and cohesive community. His leadership was marked by diplomacy and strategic alliances, which helped protect his people from external threats, including the Zulu and Boer incursions.
Moshoeshoe established his capital at Thaba Bosiu, a mountain fortress that provided natural defense. He is remembered for his wisdom and ability to foster peace among diverse groups. Today, he is celebrated as a national hero and a symbol of unity for the Basotho people.
