Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway
The Montreal, Maine and Atlantic Railway (MMA) was a short-line railroad that operated in the northeastern United States and Canada. Established in 2003, it primarily provided freight services, connecting various industries to major markets. The railway's routes spanned from Montreal, Quebec to Maine, facilitating the transport of goods such as lumber and paper products.
In 2013, the MMA gained significant attention due to a tragic accident in Lac-Mégantic, Quebec, where a runaway train derailed, resulting in a catastrophic explosion. This incident led to increased scrutiny of railway safety practices and ultimately contributed to the railway's bankruptcy in 2014.
