Maine Central Railroad
The Maine Central Railroad (MCRR) was a significant railway system in the state of Maine, established in 1862. It played a crucial role in connecting various towns and cities, facilitating the transportation of goods and passengers across the region. The railroad's main line ran from Portland to Bangor, linking important economic centers.
In 1977, the MCRR was acquired by the Boston and Maine Railroad, which later became part of the Conrail system. Although the original MCRR ceased operations, its legacy continues through the preservation of some of its routes and the impact it had on Maine's development and economy.
