Monon Railroad
The Monon Railroad, officially known as the Monon Route, was a regional railroad in the United States that operated primarily in Indiana and Kentucky. Established in the 1840s, it played a significant role in connecting various towns and cities, facilitating both passenger and freight transport. The railroad was known for its distinctive blue and yellow color scheme and its slogan, "The Hoosier Line."
In 1971, the Monon Railroad ceased operations as an independent entity and was eventually merged into the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Today, remnants of the Monon can be seen in various rail trails and historical sites, preserving its legacy in the region's transportation history.
