Louisville and Nashville Railroad
The Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N) was a major American railroad that operated primarily in the southeastern United States. Founded in 1850, it connected cities like Louisville, Kentucky and Nashville, Tennessee, facilitating trade and travel. The railroad played a significant role in the economic development of the region, especially during the 19th and early 20th centuries.
Over the years, the L&N expanded its network, reaching states such as Alabama, Mississippi, and Florida. In 1982, the L&N merged with the Seaboard Coast Line Railroad to form the CSX Transportation, marking the end of its independent operations. Today, remnants of the L&N's legacy can still be seen in the infrastructure and communities it helped develop.
