Monarchy of Hawaii
The Monarchy of Hawaii was a system of governance that existed from 1810 until 1893. It began with King Kamehameha I, who united the Hawaiian Islands and established a kingdom. The monarchy was characterized by a series of rulers, including Queen Liliʻuokalani, the last reigning monarch, who faced challenges from foreign interests and internal conflicts.
In 1893, the monarchy was overthrown by a group of American and European businessmen, leading to the establishment of a provisional government. This event marked the end of the Hawaiian Kingdom and set the stage for its eventual annexation by the United States in 1898, significantly impacting Hawaiian culture and sovereignty.
