Mitakshara
Mitakshara is a traditional Hindu law school that primarily governs inheritance and property rights in India. It is based on ancient texts and is one of the two main schools of Hindu law, the other being Dayabhaga. Mitakshara emphasizes the concept of coparcenary, where property is jointly owned by male members of a family, allowing them to inherit ancestral property.
The Mitakshara system is significant in determining how property is divided among heirs, particularly in the context of joint families. Under this system, sons have a right to inherit their father's property by birth, which contrasts with the Dayabhaga system, where inheritance occurs only upon the father's death.
