Dayabhaga
Dayabhaga is a legal text that outlines the principles of inheritance and property rights in Hindu law, primarily followed in the eastern regions of India, particularly in Bengal. It was authored by the scholar Jimutavahana in the 12th century and is considered one of the two main schools of Hindu law, the other being Mitakshara.
Unlike Mitakshara, which emphasizes joint family property and coparcenary rights, Dayabhaga focuses on individual ownership and the rights of heirs. It provides a framework for the distribution of property among heirs, emphasizing the importance of wills and individual rights in inheritance matters.
