Mission San Gabriel Arcángel is one of the 21 California missions founded by Spanish Franciscan missionaries. Established in 1771, it is located in San Gabriel, near Los Angeles. The mission was named after the archangel Gabriel and served as a center for converting local Native American tribes to Christianity.
