Metabolic Panels
A metabolic panel is a blood test that measures various substances in the blood to assess a person's overall health. It typically includes tests for glucose, electrolytes, and kidney and liver function. The results help doctors evaluate metabolic processes and identify potential health issues.
There are two main types of metabolic panels: the basic metabolic panel (BMP) and the comprehensive metabolic panel (CMP). The BMP includes essential tests, while the CMP provides a broader overview by adding protein levels, calcium, and liver enzymes. Both panels are useful for monitoring conditions like diabetes and kidney disease.
