Messier 79
Messier 79 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Lepus. It is approximately 41,000 light-years away from Earth and contains hundreds of thousands of stars, tightly packed together. This cluster is notable for its relatively high concentration of stars and its distinct yellowish hue, which is due to the presence of older stars.
Discovered by Pierre Méchain in 1780, Messier 79 was later included in the Messier Catalog by Charles Messier. It is classified as a type II globular cluster, indicating a more concentrated core. Observations of Messier 79 provide valuable insights into the formation and evolution of star clusters in our galaxy.
