Messier 71
Messier 71 is a globular cluster located in the constellation Sagitta. It is approximately 13,000 light-years away from Earth and contains several hundred thousand stars. Unlike many other globular clusters, Messier 71 has a loose structure, making it appear more like an open cluster.
Discovered by Jean-Marie Méchain in 1780, Messier 71 was later included in the Messier Catalog by Charles Messier. The cluster is notable for its relatively young age compared to typical globular clusters, estimated to be around 10 billion years old. Its stars are primarily older, low-mass stars, contributing to its unique characteristics.
