Mesenteric Arteries
The mesenteric arteries are a group of blood vessels that supply oxygenated blood to the intestines. They include the superior mesenteric artery (SMA) and the inferior mesenteric artery (IMA). The SMA primarily supplies the small intestine and the first part of the large intestine, while the IMA supplies the lower part of the large intestine.
These arteries branch off from the abdominal aorta, which is the main artery that carries blood from the heart to the lower body. Proper blood flow through the mesenteric arteries is essential for digestive health, as they ensure that the intestines receive the necessary nutrients and oxygen.
