Mengzi, also known as Mencius, was a Chinese philosopher who lived during the Warring States period (circa 372–289 BCE). He is best known for his contributions to Confucianism, emphasizing the inherent goodness of human nature and the importance of moral development. Mengzi's ideas were recorded in a text also named Mengzi, which consists of dialogues and philosophical discussions.
Mengzi argued that people are born with a natural inclination toward compassion and righteousness. He believed that proper education and a supportive environment are essential for nurturing these qualities. His thoughts have significantly influenced Chinese philosophy and continue to be studied and respected today.
