Mehmed V was the 35th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, reigning from 1909 until his death in 1918. He was born on November 2, 1844, and became sultan after the deposition of his brother, Abdul Hamid II. His reign was marked by significant political changes and the challenges of modernization within the empire. During his rule, Mehmed V presided over the First World War, where the Ottoman Empire sided with the Central Powers. His role was largely ceremonial, as real power was held by the Young Turks and military leaders. He died on July 3, 1918, and was succeeded by his half-brother, Mehmed VI.
