Medieval Kings of Serbia
The Medieval Kings of Serbia ruled from the 12th to the 15th centuries, a period marked by the rise of the Nemanjić dynasty. This dynasty, founded by Stefan Nemanja, played a crucial role in establishing the Serbian state and expanding its territory. The kings were known for their efforts in promoting Orthodox Christianity and building monasteries, which became centers of culture and education.
One of the most notable kings was Stefan the First-Crowned, who was the first to be crowned as king in 1217. His reign marked the beginning of Serbia's recognition as a kingdom. The medieval period ended with the Ottoman conquest in the late 14th century, which significantly impacted Serbian history.
