Medial Ligament of the Ankle
The medial ligament of the ankle, also known as the deltoid ligament, is a strong band of tissue located on the inner side of the ankle. It connects the tibia (the larger bone of the lower leg) to several bones in the foot, including the talus and calcaneus. This ligament plays a crucial role in stabilizing the ankle joint and preventing excessive movement that could lead to injuries.
Injuries to the medial ligament are less common than those to the lateral ligaments but can occur due to excessive eversion of the foot. Symptoms of a medial ligament injury may include pain, swelling, and difficulty bearing weight on the affected ankle. Proper diagnosis and treatment are essential for recovery and to restore normal function.
