Mayfly
The mayfly is an aquatic insect belonging to the order Ephemeroptera. They are known for their short adult lifespan, often living only a few hours to a couple of days. Mayflies undergo incomplete metamorphosis, with three life stages: egg, nymph, and adult. The nymphs live in water for several months to years, depending on the species, and are important indicators of water quality.
Adult mayflies are characterized by their delicate bodies and large, membranous wings. They are often seen swarming near water bodies during mating season. Mayflies play a crucial role in the ecosystem, serving as food for fish and other wildlife, and are also significant for fishing enthusiasts.
