Ephemeroptera
Ephemeroptera, commonly known as mayflies, are an order of insects characterized by their delicate bodies and long, slender wings. They are primarily found in freshwater habitats, such as rivers and lakes, where they play a crucial role in the aquatic ecosystem. Mayflies are known for their short adult lifespan, often living only a few hours to a few days, during which they focus on reproduction.
The life cycle of mayflies includes several stages: egg, nymph, and adult. The nymphs, which can live for several months to years underwater, are important food sources for fish and other aquatic animals. After emerging as adults, mayflies engage in a brief mating period before dying, completing their life cycle.
