Mathematical Division
Mathematical division is one of the four basic arithmetic operations, alongside addition, subtraction, and multiplication. It involves splitting a number, called the dividend, into equal parts based on another number, known as the divisor. The result of this operation is called the quotient. For example, dividing 10 by 2 gives a quotient of 5, meaning 10 can be evenly split into 2 groups of 5.
In division, if the divisor does not evenly divide the dividend, the result may include a remainder. For instance, dividing 7 by 3 results in a quotient of 2 with a remainder of 1, since 3 fits into 7 two times, leaving 1 left over. Division can also be represented using fractions or decimals for more precise results.
